Spiritual Care in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy

Whether you’re working with people that are spiritual but not religious, agnostic, committed atheists, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Mainstream Protestant, Evangelical, Buddhist, Hindu, Folk Religions, or Indigenous traditions, it’s important to approach spiritual care with cultural competence. A large majority of people using psychedelics report a mystical experience. This course will teach you how to provide spiritual care within the scope of your work.

This course will cover:

  • Spiritual, Existential, Religious and Theological (SERT) components of psychedelic assisted therapy

  • Why SERT matters

  • Ethical considerations

This course is open to all and does not award continuing education credits. The content is relevant for therapists, medicine workers, chaplains, clergy, providers of end-of-life care and pastoral support. It provides direction for those seeking to make meaning of their own psychedelic experiences in the context of their beliefs.

This course costs $70 and is on demand and available 30 days following purchase. The course includes four videos (approximately 2.5 hours total) and other resources.

Megan Hollaway is the instructor for this course. The Rev. Megan Hollaway is an Episcopal priest, clinical social worker, and spiritual director, currently serving as the Director of Education at Ligare, a Christian psychedelic society. She also provides psychedelic chaplaincy in the context of state-legal retreats and integration support for people from a variety of religious backgrounds, including committed atheists and the spiritual-but-not-religious. She is a graduate of Yale Divinity School and completed psychedelic-assisted facilitator training at UC Berkeley’s Center for the Science of Psychedelics and at the CIIS Center for Psychedelic Therapy and Research. Deeply formed by Benedictine spirituality, she integrates wisdom from the Desert Fathers and monastic traditions with contemporary insights from therapeutic, somatic, and nature-based practices.
